When it all began…

The first hike. March 22, 2020. Not long into the COVID-19 shut down, the KNEP family (Kimby, Nick, Elijah, and Penelope) took to the trails. In the midst of uncertainty, overwhelm, grief/loss, and the host of things that come with a global pandemic, we hoped a hike would give us some perspective and hope. We were ready for signs of new life! Unfortunately, spring had not yet sprung and our walk was cold and filled with brown grass and bare trees. It would have been easy to grow weary, especially given the emotional, physical, and spiritual exhaustion with which we began our journey. Yet, with each step we found new hope. The kids ran up the steep hill, Nick and I struggled to keep up (though in fairness, I was just cleared to hike following bi-lateral PRP knee injections and Nick was motivating a 120 pound Newfoundland who felt so-so about the hill). On that day, we found hope. And so it began…
