Ride of a lifetime.

June 7, 2020. Elijah and Penelope are so gifted at noticing the little things. In the times I become hyper-focused on moving us from point A to point B, I am humbled and in awe of Elijah and Penelope’s ability to take in, observe, and interact with all the beauty along the way. Kids are so capable and we are born so present-minded. I have a great deal to learn from Elijah and Penelope. I’m grateful they continue to teach me! While completing our longest hike so far (3.5 miles), we took pause to play tic, tac, toe in the dirt. We also spent a lot of time observing the plethora of inch worms hanging down from the trees. We stopped for a bit to spend time letting an inch worm crawl on our hands. We observed the incredible way it moved, the number of legs, where it’s eyes were, and wondered all about inch worms. When it came time to keep moving on the hike, we decided to let the inch worm travel with us. We took turns holding it in our hands, although, it seemed to most enjoy crawling up Elijah’s arm and resting on his shoulder. We talked about how, for the inch worm, walking a mile with us was like if we traveled the world! After finding the inch worm a safe place to stay at the edge of the forest, we kept saying, “Wow! That inch worm just took the ride if it’s life!” I’m grateful for kids who slow me down on the path from point A to point B, so I can take in the beauty and wonder all around me in the moment. Being their mama is the ride of a lifetime. I couldn’t imagine it any other way!
