June 4, 2020. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were headed back to the ice age trail! Not long into the hike, we encountered a challenge. Spiders were busy at work weaving webs across the path. We worked hard to keep our positive attitudes despite the constant feeling of spider webs (and at times spiders) on our skin. Eventually we made it through that overgrown section of the trail and onto a wider path. Then, we made it to the prairie. The discomfort of the spider webs faded and the warmth of the sun, discovery of butterflies, and resounding laughter persisted. Those spider webs serve as a beautiful metaphor for our feelings. Sometimes, when we are experiencing a really uncomfortable feeling, it feels like it will last forever. But no feelings last forever. In the midst of those webs, it felt like the itching and crawling feeling on us might never end. Yet, it did. No feelings last forever. They are like the clouds in the sky that float by. One step at a time. One day at a time, we continue to make our way through the webs. Our hope—that we remain brave enough to trust that the webs will not last forever and even within the webs we can find beauty!
