June 13, 2020. On this hike, we explored a new (to us) segment of the ice age trail. As we did, the kids continued to make “text to world connections” as they imagined and talked about how the various parts of the trail reminded them of different places the Ingalls family lived in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s “Little House” book series. We imagined where the house in the big woods would have been, the house in the prairie, and the house near the new town. Elijah and Penelope make such incredible connections. It is so beautiful to watch their minds at work!
Oh, also, they picked a lot of beautiful wildflowers for Nick and me. I think it might be illegal to pick wildflowers in Wisconsin but it was too precious a gesture to discourage. They got excited about learning various types of wildflowers and observed similarities and difference in the flowers as they examined them closely. Elijah and Penelope are so kind, compassionate, and mindful!! I am so lucky to be their mom!
